Gifts are not Entitlements

We take for granted that we are entitled to the next day and the next and the next. It is only when death collides with our world that we start to wonder and reflect. We may live differently while we cope with our grief and loss or while we recuperate from the life threatening illness, but more often we go back to the same place where we feel entitled to life. We are not. The only time we are entitled to is the time that we have  right now; the moment that we are in right now. The next minute is a gift just as a new day is. That's the power of grace. Grace gives you and me another day; another minute.

Every day we awaken to should be one lived in total thanks; total praise because we awakened under the grace of God. When we get to a place where we understand that we are not life givers but life recipients; that we are not the ones in control of who gets life, then we will treat the moments we have differently and live our lives differently.

How have you treated your life up to this point? If, like me you have sometimes walked around thinking that it is owed to you don't you think it's time to take a different view? One where you start appreciating each day as a gift of grace and live a life of thanks for that grace?
